The mission of the Arlington Heights Community Concert Band is to provide musical entertainment to the community, to provide opportunities for community members to join and be part of a musical organization, to provide for individual musical expression and growth, and to contribute to the community's music appreciation.
A native of New Jersey, Adam holds a Bachelor of
Music Education degree from North Park University. Having
taught general music and band for several years, he is currently
pursuing a Master's degree in musicology at Northern Illinois
University where he holds a graduate teaching assistantship. A
member of the American Society for Composers, Authors, and
Publishers (ASCAP), Adam has conducted performances of his own
works, throughout the Chicagoland area. He resides in Cary
with his wife, Michelle, who plays flute and bassoon in the band and
serves as board secretary.
Dan has played in both the horn and trombone sections for many years. Dan assumed the role of Director of the Arlington Brass Ensemble in 2006 after Adam La Spata became the conductor of the AHCCB. In addition to performing and leadership positions, Dan is also our librarian and serves on the Board of Directors. Dan drives a school bus for the Palatine School District and recently obtained his degree with a minor in music. Dan lives in Palatine with his wife Joan, who plays percussion in the band and is its president, and daughter Terri, who plays oboe.
Since January 2008, Maureen Temple has played trumpet for both the Arlington Heights Community Concert Band and the Arlington Brass Ensemble. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in speech communication with minors in both English and music, and is persuing a master's degree in special education from National-Louis University. Maureen works with both Hersey High School and Waubonsie Valley High School coaching the drum majors for their marching bands. Maureen is currently a stay-at-home mom and resides in Palatine with her husband Matt, who is the Director of Bands at New Trier High school, and their twins Aiden and Annabelle.
There are approximately 60 volunteer members in the Arlington Heights Community Concert Band. Their ages range from 14 to 80+ years old. Some are extremely accomplished musicians, and some are not. But all enjoy having fun and sharing their love of music with each other and with audiences at our concerts.
Membership is open to anyone 14 years of age or older who has experience playing a musical instrument. No audition is required, and placement is at the discretion of the conductor.
